When to Submit a CMP Declaration 

You must properly enter and allocate all continuing education credits (CEs) to the areas necessary to meet the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP BOC) Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) point requirements for your credential before submitting your CMP declaration. 

  • Once your continuing education (CE) requirements have been met, you’ll be able to allocate them to the required areas.

  • Submit your online CMP declaration and fee(s): 
    • as early as 90 days (3 months) prior to the expiration of your credential.  
    • at least 30 days (1 month) prior to the expiration of your credential. 
  • The earliest your CMP cycle will be updated is the first day of the month in which it expires.  

How to Complete CMP – Step by Step

  1. Review the CMP requirements for your credential.
  2. Complete your required CEs.
  3. Confirm that all completed CE credits have been entered and allocated correctly.
  4. Submit your completed CMP declaration and fee(s).
  5. Save proof of CE completion in the event of an audit.
  6. Watch for emails alerting you to log in to your account to view the status of your submitted CMP declaration.
    • Check your Junk or Spam folders for emails you may have missed.
    • You can log in to your ASCP account at any time to view the status of your submitted CMP declaration.
    • CMP fees will not be refunded or waived due to the non-receipt of email notifications.
  7. Upon successful completion of the ASCP BOC CMP program, you will receive access to an electronic renewal letter for your credential. Beginning January 2026, you will also receive a digital badge through Credly.

Other Important CMP Information

Individuals who have earned more than one American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) credential may be eligible to submit multiple CMP declarations at the same time at a discounted rate. Credentials must:

  • Have the same expiration date OR
  • Have expiration dates within three months of each other AND
  • Be of the same type (certification/certification or qualification/qualification)

You must submit CMP declarations for multiple credentials at the same time (on the same business day) to receive the reduced fee.

Individuals who have earned more than one credential that do not meet the above requirements may be eligible to Synchronize Multiple Credentials.

All fees are paid when submitting your CMP declaration. All fees are non-refundable. 

CMP Fees - Certification  

CMP Application Fee: $110
Reduced pricing is available for those educated and living in low or middle-income countries.

CMP Reinstatement Fee: $135
This fee is required to reinstate an expired credential; it is paid in addition to the CMP application fee.

Reduced Fee for Multiple Qualifications: $20
You are eligible for this reduced fee if you hold multiple qualifications with the same expiration date, or that expire within three months of each other. This reduced CMP application fee will be charged for the second (or more) qualification. A separate CMP declaration is required for each qualification, and they must be submitted on the same business day to receive the reduced fee.

CMP Fees – Qualification 

CMP Application Fee: $55

CMP Reinstatement Fee: $60
This fee is required to reinstate an expired credential; it is paid in addition to the CMP application fee.

Reduced Fee for Multiple Qualifications: $20
You are eligible for this reduced fee if you hold multiple qualifications with the same expiration date, or that expire within three months of each other. This reduced CMP application fee will be charged for the second (or more) qualification. A separate CMP declaration is required for each qualification, and they must be submitted on the same business day to receive the reduced fee.

After successfully completing the ASCP BOC CMP, you will receive access to an electronic renewal letter, which will indicate your earned credential and valid dates.  

Beginning January 2026, all professionals who successfully complete the ASCP BOC CMP will also receive a digital badge through Credly. Read additional details about ASCP BOC digital badges.  

The designation “CM”, in superscript, follows your credential to indicate you’ve successfully completed the ASCP BOC CMP [e.g., MLS(ASCP)CM, / QIHCCM]. See the full Citation of Credentials page for more information.  

To ensure the integrity of the CMP, the ASCP BOC audits a percentage of CMP declarations. You will be notified if your CMP declaration is selected for audit. If selected for audit, you will be required to submit documentation verifying completion of all continuing education activities (CEs) submitted on your CMP declaration. CEs used to fulfill your CMP requirements must be earned during your current three-year credential cycle (or within the last three years if your credential is expired). 

Example: If your credential expires January 2029, only CEs completed between January 2026 and January 2029 may be used for recredentialing. 

It is your responsibility to monitor your three-year credential cycle and submit your completed CMP declaration prior to your credential expiration date. 

  • Make sure to keep your email address up to date in your ASCP accound under “Profile and Settings.”  
  • Check your Junk and Spam folders for emails.  
  • Whitelist ASCP and ASCP BOC email addresses. 
  • Log in to your ASCP account at any time to view the status of your ASCP BOC credentials and any submitted CMP declaration(s). 

As a courtesy, the ASCP BOC sends out numerous automated emails reminding you to participate in the Credential Maintenance Program (CMP): 

  • One-year anniversary (newly credentialed only)  
  • One-year reminder  
  • Six-month reminder 
  • Three-month reminder 
  • One-month reminder 
  • One-week reminder 
  • Expired 

In addition, after submitting your CMP declaration, automated emails are sent whenever there is a change in the status of your declaration.  

It is your responsibility to participate in CMP to keep your credential valid. CMP reinstatement fees will not be refunded or waived due to the non-receipt of email notifications.
