Examination Committees and Work Groups

All American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) examination committees and work groups consist of a majority of laboratory professionals and are representative of the laboratory team. These roles include medical laboratory scientists, medical laboratory technicians, supervisors, educators, and pathologists representing broad geographic regions of the United States and laboratory facilities of various types and sizes.  As vacancies in examination committees and work groups occur, volunteers with appropriate characteristics are sought to complement the existing cohort and ensure a diverse composition.

Learn more about ASCP BOC Rules of Engagement and Expectations for all volunteers. Refer to the specific examination committee or work group webpages found below to find out more about that group's responsibilities, time commitment, terms, and vacancies.

Selection

Volunteer opportunities are available on a rolling basis. Examination committee and work group volunteers have term limits. Examination committee volunteers typically serve two 3-year terms while work group volunteers typically serve two 5-year terms. When a position is available, volunteers are sought to fill the vacated committee or work group seat. The examination committee and work group compositions are annually reviewed to determine what characteristics would best complement the existing group composition. To ensure diversity among the committees and work groups, focus is placed on job/position title, type and size of facility, area of expertise, geographic region, etc.
