The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) credentials individuals and does not accredit or approve educational programs. This function belongs to specific accreditation agencies that evaluate medical laboratory education programs.  

NAACLS is a recognized agency for accreditation of many program types. Graduates of the NAACLS-accredited programs below may apply for ASCP BOC credentials using a program route: 

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Clinical Assistant (can apply for the Medical Laboratory Assistant credential)
  • Cytogenetics
  • Diagnostic Molecular Science (can apply for the Technologist in Molecular Biology credential)
  • Histotechnician
  • Histotechnologist
  • Pathologists’ Assistant
  • Phlebotomy

 

CAAHEP is a recognized agency for accreditation of many program types. Graduates of the following CAAHEP-accredited programs may apply for ASCP BOC credentials using a program route: 

  • Cytotechnologist
  • Specialist in Blood Bank Technology/Transfusion Medicine

 

ABHES is a recognized agency for accreditation of many program types. Graduates of the following ABHES-accredited programs may apply for ASCP BOC credentials using a program route: 

  • Medical Laboratory Technician
