It is up to all laboratory professionals to advocate for their profession to more accurately represent the expertise and advanced responsibilities held by today's laboratory professionals. The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) has assembled a toolkit with a list of resources and sample communications to help individuals take action when they see incorrect nomenclature. For example, a colleague might not yet know about the transition to MLS(ASCP) or may not realize the importance of a united front. Reaching out to employers, organizations, stakeholders, and colleagues to advocate for the laboratory profession is made easier with the use of the accurate nomenclature toolkit.
