Phlebotomy Examination Committee

The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) Phlebotomy Examination Committee works on developing, maintaining, and evaluating questions for the Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) examination. 

Responsibilities

  • Writes and reviews examination questions.
  • Performs a practice analysis for examinations.
  • Performs standard setting for examinations.
  • Develops and reviews the examination eligibility requirements, content guidelines, and reading lists.
  • Participates in all committee meetings, conference calls, and activities.
  • Promotes the value of ASCP BOC credentials.

Time Commitment

  • Meets in person or by conference call annually. Approved travel expenses are covered by the ASCP BOC.
  • Meets periodically by conference call during the year.
  • Volunteers work independently on assignments throughout the year.

Terms

Examination committee volunteers serve:

  • One guest year
  • Up to two consecutive 3-year terms

The Phlebotomy Examination Committee is seeking:

  • Experienced individuals who are currently working as phlebotomists or who are managers/supervisors of the phlebotomy team
  • PBT(ASCP)CM or PBT(ASCPi)CM credentialed professionals (preferred)
  • Geographic preference: Phlebotomists residing in the Mountain or Western U.S.

Availability to attend the Phlebotomy Examination Committee meeting in Spring 2026 is required.
