Submit Application

All American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) applications are completed online. All new applicants are required to create an ASCP account before applying online.

When creating your ASCP account, your first and last name must match an acceptable form of identification. See The Test Center for complete details.

Application Submission Instructions

  1. Login or create an ASCP account
    • Do not create a duplicate account.
    • The name in your ASCP account must match (first and last) a valid form of Identification; see The Test Center for complete details
  2. Determine your examination category and eligibility route
    • Use the ASCP BOC Examination Eligibility Assistant for ASCP BOC Certifications or Explore Credentials for a comprehensive listing
  3. Click Apply Now from the credential page to access the online application 
  4. Verify your email address
  5. Verify your contact information
  6. Select the category and route of application
  7. Complete the online application
    • Upload appropriate training and/or experience documentation; see Documentation Guidelines.
    • The first application for a specific category and route cannot be completed without uploading appropriate documentation. Retake applications will allow for the uploading of new documents, but will not require them.
    • Applications must be submitted within 60 days from the start of the application
  8. Submit the fee
    • Applications are not complete until payment has been received and processed.
    • Payment must be received within 30 days of application submission
    • Fees are not refundable.
  9. Request official transcript(s) be sent from your academic institution to the ASCP BOC
  10. Monitor application status
    • Log in at any time to View the Status of your application.
      • Under BOC activities, click Completed BOC Exam Applications
      • Click Show Details
    • Keep your email address current with the ASCP BOC.
    • An automated email notification will be sent when there is a change in the status of your application.
      • Monitor junk or spam folders, as automated emails are sometimes flagged incorrectly
  11. Log in regularly or as prompted by email to view status updates related to deficiencies or eligibility decisions.
    • Resolve any deficiencies as soon as possible; incomplete or missing information delays processing.

  13. Study for your examination
  14. Schedule your examination appointment through Pearson Vue
  15. Prepare for examination day
  16. Take your examination
  17. Receive official examination results

Application Processing Timeframes 

All applications and documents submitted are processed in the order they are received. Several touchpoints are required for the ASCP BOC team to fully process your application.

Expect to receive a status update regarding your application within 2-3 weeks of submission. You may view the status of your application at any time by logging in to your ASCP account.

Deficiencies must be addressed, and the requested documentation submitted as soon as possible. If the ASCP BOC does not receive the documents within 8 weeks of the initial application submission date (unless otherwise specified in your deficiency notice), your application may be deleted.
