Hematology Examination Committee

The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) Hematology Examination Committee works on developing, maintaining, and evaluating questions for the following examinations: Technologist in Hematology (H), Specialist in Hematology (SH), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), and Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).  

Responsibilities

  • Writes and reviews examination questions.
  • Performs a practice analysis for examinations.
  • Performs standard setting for examinations.
  • Develops and reviews the examination eligibility requirements, content guidelines, and reading lists.
  • Participates in all committee meetings, conference calls, and activities.
  • Promotes the value of ASCP BOC credentials.

Time Commitment

  • Meets in person or by conference call annually. Approved travel expenses are covered by the ASCP BOC.
  • Meets periodically by conference call during the year.
  • Volunteers work independently on assignments throughout the year.

Terms

Examination committee volunteers serve:

  • One guest year
  • Up to two consecutive 3-year terms

The Hematology Examination Committee is seeking a(n): 

  • Experienced staff- or supervisory-level laboratory professional working in the clinical hematology laboratory 

  • SH(ASCP)CM or SH(ASCPi)CM credentialed professional (preferred) 

  • Professional residing in the Mountain or Western United States (preferred) 

Availability to attend the annual 2-day meeting of the Hematology Examination Committee in Spring 2026 is required.
