Practice Analyses

A practice analysis defines the knowledge, skills, and tasks that are essential for safe and effective practice in a particular discipline. The practice analyses inform the examination content guidelines and help ensure that the examinations remain relevant to current practice.

The Examination

The ASCP BOC uses criterion-referenced computerized adaptive testing (CAT) for most of its certification examinations. All ASCP BOC exams contain multiple-choice questions with one best answer. Most certification examinations are scheduled for 2 hours and 30 minutes and have 100 questions.

 Examination Committees and Work Groups

ASCP BOC examination committees and work groups are primarily responsible for validating the content of ASCP BOC examinations.  Learn more and see what volunteer positions are available.
