Canadian Education

All applicants for an American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) credential must verify that they meet the acceptable education, training, and/or experience requirements for the category and route of application. See Acceptable Education for complete details.

Education or Training in Canada

Education obtained outside of the United States (U.S.) must be equivalent to a U.S. degree. Most applicants from Canada may submit an official transcript rather than a foreign transcript evaluation.

  • A baccalaureate degree from a Canadian University must be equivalent to a U.S. four-year baccalaureate degree to meet academic requirements for ASCP BOC technologist/scientist-level credentials or higher. A three-year baccalaureate degree from a Canadian University is not acceptable
  • Applicants who have completed their education in Quebec must submit original transcripts verifying completion of a CEGEP / DEC program as well as college credits and/or degree requirements. Otherwise, a foreign transcript evaluation must be submitted.

The ASCP BOC reserves the right to request an acceptable foreign transcript evaluation from any applicant with education outside of the U.S.

Canadians applying for a Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCP) certification examination must have completed a CMA-accredited Medical Laboratory Technology training program.
