Laboratory Safety Work Group

The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) Laboratory Safety Work Group develops, maintains, and evaluates questions for the Qualification in Laboratory Safety (QLS) examination. 

Responsibilities

  • Writes and reviews examination questions.
  • Performs standard setting for examinations.
  • Develops and reviews the examination eligibility requirements, topic outlines, and reading list.
  • Participates in all work group meetings, conference calls, and activities.
  • Promotes the value of ASCP BOC credentials.

Time Commitment

  • Meets in person or by conference call annually. Approved travel expenses are covered by the ASCP BOC.
  • Meets periodically by conference call during the year.
  • Volunteers work independently on assignments throughout the year.

Terms

Work group volunteers serve:

  • One guest year
  • Up to two consecutive 5-year terms
