Developed through a rigorous process, ASCP BOC examinations and related resources, such as the Credential Value Library, highlight how credentials advance professional credibility, leadership opportunities, and lifelong learning. Through advocacy, partnerships, and support for laboratory education programs, the ASCP BOC strengthens workforce development, elevates professional recognition, and reinforces the essential role credentialed laboratory professionals play in delivering accurate, reliable results worldwide.
2. Credentials
ASCP BOC offers both certifications and qualifications. These credentials span a wide range of disciplines and technical areas. Individuals who sit for a credential examination must meet specific academic, training, and/or experience requirements, and pass the examination to earn a credential. All ASCP BOC examinations are criterion referenced.
With the constant advancement of laboratories and technology, as well as new research and understandings that require best practices to evolve, laboratory professionals must continually learn and adapt. The ASCP BOC developed CMP so that professionals stay current and knowledgeable in an ever-changing field.
ASCP BOC offers a secure, verifiable process for obtaining primary source verification (PSV) of professional credential holders with real-time results. Verifying a credential through the ASCP BOC ensures that laboratory professionals are properly credentialed and committed to excellence.
ASCP BOC offers a dedicated space for program directors and educators with essentials, including information on the Examination Eligibility Verification Report (EEV) and Program Performance Result (PPR). Stay current with the triannual ASCP BOC Newsletter, examination & credential insights and analytics, Program Director’s Advisory Committee (PDAC) videos and live sessions, and connect with peers in the Program Director’s Facebook group.
ASCP BOC relies on the dedication and expertise of its volunteers to advance the profession, support credential holders, and ultimately improve patient care. Serving as a volunteer provides opportunities to contribute leadership, share knowledge, and strengthen the medical laboratory community while developing their own professional skills.
