Our Partners in the Laboratory

The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) brings together the perspectives and expertise of laboratory professionals from many different organizations, institutions, and geographic locations to address the credentialing needs of practitioners at all levels of practice.

The ASCP BOC understands the importance of impartiality in conducting certification and qualification activities. It manages conflict of interest and ensures objectivity by representative membership on its Board of Governors (BOG) from other associations and societies.

The ASCP BOC BOG is composed of representatives from many laboratory professional organizations including the three sponsoring organizations (Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT),  American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), and ASCP), five participating organizations (Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA), American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), and National Society for Histotechnology (NSH)), two collaborating partners (Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) and American Society of Hematology (ASH)) and one public member. The ASCP BOC BOG and its committees are composed primarily of laboratory professionals and truly represent the laboratory community.

Additional Collaborating Partners

The ASCP BOC credentials individuals but does not accredit or approve education programs. Accreditation is conducted by independent agencies that evaluate the quality of medical laboratory education programs, such as the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), and the National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

The ASCP BOC is honored to be recognized by leading laboratory associations that, while not formal partners, often promote the value of BOC credentials. Through their advocacy, education, and visibility, these organizations help strengthen the workforce, advance laboratory medicine, and uphold excellence in patient care.
