Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) Audit Procedure

To ensure the integrity of the Credential Maintenance Program, the ASCP Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) audits a percentage of CMP declarations. Retain all original certificates of attendance or other verification of CE activity completion.

Submission Procedure

You will be notified if your CMP declaration is selected for audit. If selected for audit, you will be required to submit documentation verifying completion of all continuing education (CE) submitted on your CMP declaration.

  • Documentation must be in English.
  • Documentation must be submitted by email, following the instructions provided in the audit notification.
  • Do not submit original documents.

Successful Audit

If your documentation verifies that all required CEs have been completed, once reviewed and approved, your CMP declaration will be made Eligible. You will then receive access to an electronic CMP renewal notification indicating your updated credential end-date. "CM", in superscript, is used after your credential to indicate that you have successfully completed the CMP [e.g., MLS(ASCP)CM].

Unsuccessful Audit

If your documentation does not verify that all required CEs have been completed, or you are unable to submit documentation of completed CEs, you may submit new CE's. These new CEs must have been completed prior to your credential expiration date and must be submitted with appropriate documentation. If you are unable to complete the required CMP points due to extenuating circumstances, you may submit a letter of appeal to the ASCP BOC.

Audit Appeals Procedure

To appeal an unsuccessful audit, you must submit a letter of appeal to the ASCP BOC describing in detail the reason(s) for your inability to complete the program. Documentation supporting your request is also required.

Extenuating circumstances likely to be considered include serious, incapacitating illness lasting over one year, or military assignment overseas lasting over a one-year duration in a location with no access to online continuing education. Financial hardship and personal/family-related responsibilities are not considered extenuating circumstances.

Your letter of appeal and all supporting documentation will be reviewed, and you will be notified of the decision.
