The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification’s (ASCP BOC) positive contributions to laboratory professionals, stakeholders, and patients can only be accomplished through the dedication and hard work of the ASCP BOC’s valued volunteers.
Potential volunteers should consider their available time, interests, skills, and how volunteering aligns with their strengths and personal goals.
Additionally, all volunteers are expected to adhere to the following ASCP BOC guidelines and policies.
The ASCP BOC Volunteer Code of Conduct outlines the expectations and rules of conduct that apply to all ASCP BOC volunteers. Volunteers involved with the ASCP BOC will treat others professionally and with respect. Volunteers also have a duty of loyalty and are to conform to the legal and ethical standards that apply to the ASCP BOC. For this reason, the ASCP BOC Board of Governors (BOG) mandates that all volunteers abide by and conform to this code of conduct.
All ASCP BOC volunteers sign a Confidentiality, Conflict of Interest, and Impartiality Policy Acceptance Form pledging to keep information confidential and avoid personal biases at least annually. Volunteers are required to disclose potential conflicts of interest that could impact their ability to act impartially. Conflicts may exist when loyalties are divided between ASCP BOC interests and the interests of the volunteer. For this reason, Conflict of Interest (COI) Guidelines have been developed to assist volunteers with identifying potential conflicts of interest.
The interests of the ASCP BOC are best served when volunteers engage in activities and contribute in meaningful ways. As an ASCP BOC volunteer, the following guidelines and ground rules are provided to facilitate effective outcomes:
The important, valuable work of the ASCP BOC can only be accomplished through the dedication, meaningful insights, and hard work of its valued volunteers.
