The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) Research and Development Committee (R&D) reviews current developments in educational measurement, prepares research proposals, responds, monitors and interprets external research results, provides oversight for ongoing research projects, and publishes and disseminates findings.
Review current developments in educational measurement and professional roles and responsibilities
Prepare research proposals and protocols
Respond to research and develop requests from appropriate internal ASCP BOC groups
Monitor and interpret external research results and report to the Board of Governos (BOG)
Provide oversight for ongoing research projects for the ASCP BOC
Publish and disseminate research findings

The committee meets annually
Much of the committee’s work is done by conference call as related to a specific project
The Research and Development Committee (R&D) is composed of 6 – 8 individuals with education or research backgrounds and include representation from each of the following:
Individuals credentialed by the ASCP BOC and currently practicing in laboratory medicine and pathology
Pathologists and other physicians with relevant experience
Professionals in educational evaluation, social science research, or psychometrics
Volunteers do not need to be current members of the BOG.
The committee chair is appointed annually by the BOG Chair and may serve for consecutive years.
