Examination Results

All examinees will receive an official score report within a week of taking an American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) examination. You are not credentialed until your passing score report is made available to you; this score report includes your certification number (certifications only) and valid three-year credential cycle dates.

Preliminary Certification Examination Results

You will see your preliminary certification examination result (pass or fail) on the computer screen at the end of the examination. Because this is a preliminary result, score reports cannot be printed at the Pearson VUE testing center.

Score Reports for all ASCP BOC Examinations

Notification to log in to your account to view your examination score will be emailed to you within four business days after you have taken the examination, provided all official transcripts verifying the required coursework or appropriate degree have been received and processed.

Sometimes these emails get flagged as junk or Spam. After taking your examination, log in to your ASCP account regularly to access your score report when it is available.

Your official score report will indicate a “pass” or “fail” status and the scaled score on the total examination. For failed certification examination scores, the score report includes a breakdown of the overall score into each subtest area. This allows you to review your strong and weak areas and helps guide you toward which areas you may want to study further to effectively prepare for retaking the examination. Score breakdowns are not available for passing scores. For complete details about examination scores, see About the Examination.

Examination results are only provided on an examinee’s official score report, which you can access by logging in to your ASCP account, and to the program officials of accredited programs.

Graduates of Accredited Programs

Release of Examination Score to Program Officials

If you completed a NAACLS, CAAHEP, or ABHES-accredited program, your examination score will be released to the officials of your program unless you instruct the ASCP BOC otherwise, no later than 7 days after your examination date. Send your request to PDInfo@ascp.org. Make sure to include your ASCP Customer ID and the name of your program.

Release of Score Report

If you pass the examination on your first attempt, an official transcript verifying that the academic requirements have been met must be received and processed by the ASCP BOC team before your score report is released to you.

You will not have access to your examination score report, and you are not credentialed, until this transcript has been received. If your official transcript is not fully processed within one year of your examination date, your examination score will be invalidated.

An examinee whose score is invalidated for non-receipt of a transcript will need to submit a new application and fee; you will not be able to schedule your examination date until you have submitted an official transcript to the ASCP BOC, verifying that academic requirements have been met.

Examination Score Review Request

ASCP BOC examinations are computer-administered and electronically scored. An examination score review ensures that the examination was administered properly, including verification that the candidate viewed the questions, answers were recorded, the proper amount of time was given, questions were administered according to the content guideline or topic outline percentages, and question difficulty increased or decreased appropriately (if applicable).

The ASCP BOC does not rescore examinations, disclose content or answers for examination questions, report incorrect answers, or change/reconsider the passing standard in a review. Please note the review rarely changes the examination outcome or candidate’s pass/fail status.

To request a review of your examination, you must notify the ASCP BOC office in writing within 30 days from the date of receipt of scores. Requests received after this date will not be accepted. A $25.00 fee is required. The check or money order must be enclosed with your request. Please allow up to 6 weeks for the processing of the payment. Upon completion of the review, you will receive an email confirming your status.

Requests should be mailed to:

ASCP Board of Certification
33 West Monroe Street, Suite 1600
Chicago, IL 60603

If you have questions, please review the appeal procedures.
