Acceptable Education

To meet the eligibility requirements for an ASCP or ASCPi credential, education must:

  • Be obtained at a regionally or nationally accredited college or university within the United States (U.S.) OR
  • Be obtained at an accredited college or university in Canada OR
  • Be determined equivalent to a U.S. degree through an acceptable foreign transcript evaluation agency

Accredited colleges or universities in the U.S. are listed by the United States Department of Education (USDE).

Accredited colleges or universities in Canada are listed by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). A baccalaureate degree equivalent to a U.S. baccalaureate degree is required for ASCP BOC technologist/scientist level credentials or higher; a three-year degree from a Canadian University is not acceptable.

Academic transcripts from outside the U.S. and Canada must be evaluated by an acceptable foreign transcript evaluation agency. The foreign transcript evaluation must be sent directly from the agency to the ASCP BOC. All foreign transcript evaluations must include a U.S. educational equivalency statement. Applicants applying for a route with specific coursework requirements must provide a transcript evaluation containing a course-by-course breakdown. The ASCP BOC reserves the right to request a course-by-course evaluation from all applicants.

The ASCP BOC reserves the right to request a foreign transcript evaluation from any applicant with education outside of the U.S.

To meet eligibility requirements, both acceptable education and acceptable training and/or experience must be verified. Review the eligibility requirements carefully to ensure that you meet all requirements as written.
