CMS Now Covers Blood-Based Biomarker Screening for Colorectal Cancer

Recognizing that blood-based biomarker tests have emerged as another potential non-invasive option for the early detection of CRC, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that it is extending coverage for these services under Medicare Part B. In releasing the new National Coverage Determination, CMS stated that it will reimburse services performed after January 19, 2021, once every three years for Medicare patients when performed in a laboratory certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.
