The ASCP Center for Global Health is a dynamic team focused on improving laboratory practice by identifying challenges, exploring innovative approaches and forming partnerships to implement sustainable solutions.
With our partners in government agencies, non-governmental international organizations, academia and the private sector, we provide cost-effective and sustainable solutions that empower laboratorians and improve laboratory quality and patient care.
The ASCP Center for Global Health has conducted programs in 40 countries
The Center for Global Health has trained over 10,000 laboratory professionals
ASCP has supported colleges and universities in 14 countries to strengthen their medical laboratory science educational curricula and collaborates with universities establishing new pathology residency programs.
Through ASCP’s Partners Initiative for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment, over 10,484 patients in 11 countries were able to receive timely diagnoses, and local pathologists gained access to expert secondary consultation from over 200 ASCP pathologist volunteers.
ASCP works with collaborators around the world to promote excellence in medical laboratory science and support a resilient laboratory workforce. With members representing the entire laboratory team, including medical laboratory scientists, histotechnologists, cytologists, and anatomic and clinical pathologists, ASCP has access to a vast wealth of subject matter experts who are leaders in their field and eager to volunteer to support our global health programs.
The ASCP Center for Global Health conducts comprehensive needs assessments to identify gaps and opportunities in healthcare systems, focusing on expanding access and equity for patients in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We use quantitative data and qualitative insights to develop evidence-based strategies that enhance laboratory services and diagnostic access.
Empowering healthcare professionals through education and training is a cornerstone of our mission. We offer a broad range of educational programs designed to develop the laboratory workforce in LMICs, including in-service training, virtual education, pre-service curricula strengthening, and mentorship. Our mentorship programs support ongoing professional development, fostering the growth of skilled laboratory professionals equipped to enhance patient outcomes and strengthen health systems.
Innovation and research are at the heart of our efforts to advance global health. ASCP leads pioneering work in digital pathology, leveraging technology to overcome barriers in diagnostic services. Our research focuses on developing new tools and methodologies to improve diagnostic accuracy and accessibility as well as implementation science research to understand and address the practical challenges of integrating new diagnostics into healthcare systems. By collaborating with academic institutions, industry partners, and healthcare providers, we translate research findings into practical solutions that drive progress in laboratory medicine.
We provide expert guidance in policy development and strategic planning to ministries of health and laboratory professional societies. Our expertise informs the development of national cancer control plans, national laboratory strategic plans, and laboratory quality policies. By engaging stakeholders, we create robust frameworks that support the implementation of best practices in laboratory medicine, promote health equity, and strengthen health systems.
Donating laboratory equipment or excess supplies/consumables helps in the fight against cancer.
By helping those laboratories in most need with these resources, you help the less fortunate to continue, or even possibly expand their clinical services as well as provide the opportunity for valuable training that could not occur otherwise.
ASCP, in collaboration with our partners, Direct Relief and Heart to Heart, coordinate the donation and delivery of laboratory supplies and equipment around the world. If your laboratory or training program is in need of supplies, reagents or equipment, please complete the request form below.
