Robert Califf, MD, President Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Food and Drug Administration, was approved on a vote of 50-46. Califf, a cardiologist, is a former FDA Commissioner, having led the agency during President Barack Obama’s final year in office. Califf’s nomination had received the support of 6 former FDA commissioners. Dr Califf was sworn in on February 15 and took over for Dr. Janet Woodcock who has served as the acting commissioner since early 2021.
