CMS Announces New MIPS Data Submission Window, New Resources for Pathologists

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded ASCP’s National Pathology Quality Registry (NPQR) Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) status for 2019, again. CMS also announced that the window for data submission for the 2018 reporting period is officially open until April 2, 2019. Pathologists will have the opportunity during this time to submit improvement activities or quality metrics to avoid a payment penalty in 2020. To learn more about how to submit data, please review the 2018 MIPS Data Submission FAQs.

CMS has also added several new resources to its Quality Payment Program (QPP) resource library web page. These new resources are designed to help pathologists participating in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) prepare for the 2019 performance year. New resources listed include:

  • 2019 Clinical Quality Measures Specifications;
  • 2019 Quality Measure Benchmarks;
  • 2019 Improvement Activities Inventory; and the
  • 2019 Qualified Clinical Data Registry posting which includes ASCP’s National Pathology Quality Registry (NPQR).

ASCP is continuing to advocate that CMS ease the reporting burden on pathologists subject to the QPP requirements. We will continue to monitor developments in the QPP program and keep members apprised of updates throughout the new year. For more information about the NPQR and ways your laboratory can participate, please visit our website at ascp.org/NPQR.
