Rare Disease Advisor (7/11, Garlapow) reported, “Levels of serum and urinary free light chain (FLC) were elevated in a substantial proportion of patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV), particularly in those who were ANCA positive, suggesting their potential utility as biomarkers of disease activity and organ damage, in a study published in the Annals of Rheumatic Diseases.” The “single-center, cross-sectional pilot study demonstrated moderate correlations between levels of serum free kappa and disease activity and between levels of urinary free kappa and cumulative vasculitic damage, underscoring the relevance of FLC assays in clinically assessing AAV.”
