Clinical Progression Scale Pediatrics Tool Effective In Measuring Disease Severity Among Infant Patients With RSV, Study Finds

Infectious Disease Advisor (4/18, Basilio) reported that a study found that “disease severity and clinical improvement among infants with critical illness related to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection can be determined and tracked over time via the Clinical Progression Scale Pediatrics (CPS-Ped) tool.” The CPS-Ped was modified from the WHO’s “Clinical Progression Scale to include severity classifications of pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS).” Researchers concluded, “Future clinical trials in acute bronchiolitis should consider including CPS-Ped as a clinically important outcome.” The study was published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases.
