Infectious Disease Advisor (2/24) reports a study found “the Sexual Wellness Clinic, a novel care delivery model that operated in conjunction with the emergency department (ED), promoted the initiation of same-day HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among young adults and Black cisgender women.” Researchers initiated “a retrospective cohort study between February 2019 and September 2022 to assess the demographics, sexually transmitted infection positivity, and HIV PrEP uptake among patients seeking care at the Sexual Wellness Clinic. Adults who were identified at ED intake, underwent a Medical Screening Exam by a triage physician, and were transported to the Sexual Wellness Clinic were eligible for inclusion.” The study was published in Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease.
