Infectious Disease Advisor (2/21, Basilio) reported, “The administration of β-lactams prior to vancomycin is associated with reduced risk of in-hospital mortality among patients with sepsis, according to results of a study.” The researchers said, “These findings support prioritizing β-lactam therapy in most patients with sepsis but ideally merit confirmation in randomized trials given the risk of residual confounding in observational analyses.” The findings were published in Clinical Infectious Diseases.
