Patients With TB Who Receive Vitamin D Supplementation During Treatment Have Improved Symptoms, Study Suggests

Infectious Disease Advisor (2/3, Nye) reports, “Patients with tuberculosis (TB) who received vitamin D supplementation during treatment had improved symptoms; however, the clearance of TB bacteria was not accelerated, according to study findings.” The researchers said, “Supplementing with vitamin D during anti-tuberculosis treatment is safe, but it doesn’t accelerate the clearance of tuberculosis bacilli. However, it does help improve patients’ clinical symptoms.” The findings were published in Infection.
