Infectious Disease Advisor (1/15, McSwiggin) reports, “Earlier initiation of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) among pregnant women with highly viremic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection along with subsequent HBV vaccination in infants is supported for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission in areas where HBV immune globulin (HBIG) is not available, according to study results.” The researchers said, “The optimal duration of maternal TDF therapy to minimize the use of HBIG in infants is still unclear.” The findings were published in JAMA.
