Infectious Disease Advisor (10/8, Basilio) reports, “Sufficient serum levels of vitamin D may confer protection against acute respiratory infection (ARI) and the preventive effect may be mediated via the induction of cathelicidin production, according to results of a study.” Researchers found that “in a multivariable-adjusted logistic regression analysis, insufficient vitamin D levels at baseline were associated with increased risk for ARI.” The findings were published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases.
