Infectious Disease Advisor (9/30, Kuhns) reports, “Delayed antiviral therapy initiation is associated with increased mortality risk among adults hospitalized with influenza-associated pneumonia, according to study results.” Researchers found that “compared with patients who started treatment on day 0, those who started treatment on day 5 were more likely to be admitted to the ICU...receive invasive mechanical ventilation...or die within 30 days of admission.” The findings were published in Clinical Infectious Diseases.
