Previously Declining Trends In AMR, HAIs For Some Pathogens Now On The Rise, Study Finds
September 26, 2024
Infectious Disease Advisor (9/25, Basilio) reports, “Although antimicrobial resistance (AMR) proportions decreased for many pathogen-drug combinations in the United States over the past 13 years, some previously declining trends are now on the rise, according to study findings.” Researchers found that “during the pandemic period, HAI [hospital-acquired infection] incidence trends reversed for many pathogen-drug combinations.” Study results indicate that “increased incidence of vancomycin-resistant E faecium was accompanied by increased incidence of susceptible HAIs, whereas the proportion of vancomycin-resistant E faecium infections remained stable.” The findings were published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
