Vaccine Group To Buy 500K Mpox Vaccine Doses For Use In African Countries

The AP (9/18, Pronczuk) reports, “The global vaccine alliance Gavi will buy 500,000 doses of” Bavarian Nordic’s “mpox vaccine to battle outbreaks of the disease in African countries, the organization said on Wednesday,” adding it expects the doses to be available later this year. The organization “said the full costs, including the transportation, delivery and administration of the doses, amounting to $50 million, would be covered by the group’s First Response Fund, a new financial mechanism created in June 2024.” Reuters (9/18, Rigby) reports, “Also on Wednesday, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria said it would provide $9.5 million to support Congo with its emergency response at the request of the government there, including surveillance, laboratory systems and risk communication.”
