S. Aureus Bacteremia Mortality Risk Higher For Women Than Men, Study Finds

Infectious Disease Advisor (5/13, Steinbock-Malfer) reports, “The risk of mortality due to Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia is higher in women than in men, according to study results published in JAMA Network Open.” In the study, results “indicated an increased mortality risk among women (pooled adjusted OR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.11-1.27). For this analysis, the researchers observed substantial heterogeneity (Q =66.98; P <.001; I2 =51%).”
