MedPage Today (4/29, Kahn) reports, “Broad spectrum carbapenems were the most commonly used therapy for targeted treatment of extended-spectrum cephalosporin-resistant (ECR) Enterobacterales infections in US hospitals, according to a retrospective cohort study.” The study of “over 30,000 inpatient encounters involving ECR Enterobacterales infections” found “no change in carbapenem use over the course of” a four-year period “regardless of changes in” Infectious Diseases Society of America recommendations, “indicating that carbapenems were already in widespread use.” The study was published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
