April 22, 2025
Infectious Disease Advisor (4/21, Nye) reports a study found that “individuals with HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) coinfection receiving comprehensive care in Ryan White programs show high rates of HCV clearance.” Researchers observed “significantly higher rates of HCV clearance among patients with HIV coinfection who received treatment adherence therapy, medical case management, and dental care in Ryan White programs. Compared with lack of participation in Ryan White services, HCV clearance was significantly associated attendance at 4 to 6 monthly support services or 2 to 4 monthly support services.” They concluded, “Frequent receipt of supportive services, such as those provided by the national, federally funded RW [Ryan White] system, is crucial for HCV elimination.” The study was published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases.
