Clinical Chemistry Director, University of California, San Francisco

2021 Honoree

Since being named an ASCP 40 Under Forty, I have gained valuable industry experience, particularly in Medical Affairs at a large diagnostic company. During this time, I worked with a wide range of talented individuals across various departments, including Clinical Affairs, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Biostatistics, Product Management, Global Marketing, and Public Relations.

In addition to this experience, I started my own consulting company, which, together with my industry role, has provided me with a solid foundation in business skills. Furthermore, I have pursued additional state licensures and completed multiple courses in both technical and non-technical areas. Notably, I participated in the ASCP Leadership Institute, a program I joined as a result of being named an ASCP 40 Under Forty.

What are you most professionally proud of in the years since your 40 Under Forty recognition?

I am most proud of my academic productivity while working outside of academia. During this time, I published 16 manuscripts and a book chapter, attended numerous conferences, and delivered multiple presentations. This work led to an invitation to appear on a podcast to discuss a publication series on the complete blood count for clinical chemists, which I was grateful to contribute to.

Additionally, I joined the editorial board of a scientific journal, edited a special issue on cardiac troponin alongside highly esteemed colleagues in the field, and contributed actively to various professional organizations. Finally, I developed a strong interest in the regulatory implications of the FDA's final rule on laboratory-developed tests and have been sharing regular updates on LinkedIn.

“I am most proud of my academic productivity while working outside of academia.”
