Since my induction to the ASCP Forty Under 40 inaugural class, my career has continued to grow and adapt. Continuing my journey through laboratory medicine with my contacts at ASCP has allowed me to network extensively. Not only for career opportunities but also when it comes to discovering insight to help solve complex problems faced by new laboratory leaders in our profession. I believe this recognition has allowed me to advance both my career and my opportunities within ASCP through volunteerism.
When I received the 40 Under Forty recognition, I was still a young emerging leader. It was not long after I found myself in new opportunities including academia, pediatrics, and growing leadership roles. These career opportunities were each integral in providing me with the tools and education needed to have obtained the role I am in now. In likelihood, I believe the recognition, tools, and connections ASCP has provided allowed me to accomplish my career goals 5 years sooner than expected.
Tell us about any significant/notable achievements or breakthroughs in your work since you were named a 40 under Forty.
During the pandemic, I was honored to work with Dr. Blair Holiday on integrating the Clinical Laboratory Management Association into ASCP. This multiyear endeavor was highly successful, opening a new opportunity for local chapter engagement for ASCP membership. Currently, I sit as council chair over ASCP’s Council of Laboratory Management and Administration. We are working towards providing world-class education to emerging leaders in both the anatomic and clinical laboratory professions.
