It’s only been a year and a half since being named to the 40 Under Forty list, but everything has changed. I finished residency and now work at Stanford University in my dream job doing all autopsy, all the time. The means moving with my family from Seattle, Washington, to the Bay Area and making that all important mental shift from resident to attending. That switch is often made suddenly for many pathology residents. But thanks to having a research year on my fellowship, and a boost in confidence from the 40 Under Forty award, I was able to advance some critical projects in a short amount of time.
The most significant of these has been publishing TheAutopsyBook.com — an educational resource site for medical autopsy topics geared towards residents and medical students. Thanks to a national network of collaborators, the website hosts hundreds of pages of original content helping learners perform high quality autopsies backed by up-to-date data-driven medicine. Since launching in October 2023, it has been visited by thousands of unique users in 150 countries. While the website will continue to grow for years to come, we are also working to validate its effectiveness as an educational tool through a multisite curriculum project.
