Since being named an ASCP 40 Under Forty, I am much more involved in leadership and education within my institution and nationally. I just completed my term as Chair of the College of American Pathologists Microbiology Committee and have taken on the role of Vice Chair for Education in my department. I am much less focused on the science of clinical microbiology and more focused on people management.

Tell us about any significant/notable achievements or breakthroughs in your work since you were named a 40/40

My lab and institution made it through COVID-19 – as a clinical microbiologist, I felt like this was a huge achievement!

Additionally, I have been nominated for multiple teaching awards from the medical school and won Pathology Attending Teacher of the Year in 2020. In 2021, I received the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Improvement Program Service Award for my work in developing proficiency testing and educational materials on COVID-19 for labs.

My lab staff are a great group of people who do amazing work for our patients. I am proud to be leading them.
