Caroline Alquist, MD, PhD, FASCP

Co-Director of Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati

2014 Honoree

I’m grateful for ASCP’s support and recognition early in my career. I received this award in 2014 as an AP/CP resident for my achievements and leadership qualities that were making an impact on pathology and laboratory medicine. A strong foundation in lab management has been essential to my success. ASCP’s Lab Management University was a great resource for developing my leadership, personnel management, operations, financial management, informatics, and compliance knowledge. I’ve had the privilege of working with many inspiring pathology leaders across a wide breadth of environments to hone these skills.

Selecting a single area for fellowship training was difficult, but I couldn’t be more pleased with my decisions. A career in Clinical Pathology/Transfusion Medicine has been incredibly rewarding. Along my path I had the unique opportunity to train in histocompatibility and immunogenetics (HLA). As a triple-boarded transfusion medicine and histocompatibility pathologist, I’m deeply invested in the intersection of transplant services and transfusion medicine. .

I currently serve as Hoxworth Blood Center’s Co-Director, as well as Director of their mobile and fixed site Apheresis Division, Interim Director for their Cellular Therapies Division, and Cincinnati’s only active ASHI-accredited HLA Director for their Transplantation Immunology Division to support all regional solid organ transplant and cellular therapy operations.
