2024 Honoree

Since being named to the ASCP 40 Under Forty honoree in 2024, my career has undergone significant transformation. The recognition gave me a sense of belonging within the laboratory medicine community. I’ve seen a noticeable shift in how I’m perceived by my colleagues, as well as increased opportunities for collaboration with professionals across the globe. This recognition has helped amplify my voice and allowed me to engage in larger conversations about the future of laboratory medicine.

Being named to the ASCP 40 Under Forty list was a defining moment in my career. It opened doors to many opportunities that I would not have had access to otherwise. The recognition gave me more visibility within the laboratory medicine community and acted as a platform for showcasing my work and achievements.

One of the most significant milestones in my career since being named to the 40 Under Forty list was completing my PhD. Earning this degree was not just an academic achievement—it was the culmination of years of dedication, hard work, and perseverance. My doctoral research focused on interplay of vitamin D and estrogen in bone metabolism, which has practical implications for patient outcomes in bone diseases. Additionally, this achievement has reinforced my sense of belonging within the 40 Under Forty group. I now feel even more connected to this dynamic community, as it represents not just an individual accolade but a shared commitment to advancing the field of laboratory medicine.

I continue to focus on making impactful contributions to the field. I believe that recognition in laboratory medicine often comes not only through awards but also through consistent dedication to advancing the field of laboratory medicine by fostering collaboration among professionals.

I am most professionally proud of the impact that my recognition has had on inspiring and motivating other laboratory professionals, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to apply for the 40 Under Forty honoree themselves. One of the most fulfilling aspects of this experience has been hearing from colleagues around the world who were encouraged by my story and now see the potential to achieve similar recognition in their own careers.

Lessons learned

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the incredible importance of networking and building strong, supportive relationships in the laboratory medicine community. While technical expertise and knowledge are crucial, having a solid network of colleagues, mentors, and collaborators can be just as valuable in advancing one’s career.
