Being named an ASCP Forty Under 40 was a transformative milestone in my career. At the time of the recognition, I worked diligently to establish myself as a leader in the field, contributing to advancements in laboratory medicine and fostering collaboration within my professional community. Reflecting on the journey from then to now, it is remarkable how this honor has reshaped my career trajectory, opened doors to new opportunities, and inspired continuous personal and professional growth.

When I received the ASCP Forty Under 40 recognition, I was at a pivotal point in my career. While I had a solid foundation in laboratory science and was actively engaged in professional development, the visibility provided by this accolade elevated my profile within the field. Since then, my career has evolved significantly. I have taken on leadership roles that were previously out of reach, contributing to strategic initiatives, mentoring emerging professionals, and influencing policy decisions within my organization.

How did this recognition help catapult your career?

This recognition catalyzed numerous new opportunities. I participated to be one of the speakers for the ASCP Annual Meeting “Birds of a Feather” Session in 2021, asked to be a panelist for Ateneo de Manila University’s Health Sciences Committee Conference in 2022-2023, and was invited to be part of the ASCP Nominations Committee 2023. These experiences allowed me to share my insights, learn from peers, and stay at the forefront of advancements in laboratory medicine. Additionally, the ASCP Forty Under 40 network introduced me to a dynamic community of professionals whose support and collaboration have been invaluable in navigating the complexities of the profession.

Since being named to the Forty Under 40, I have pursued additional certifications and educational opportunities to deepen my expertise. For example, I earned my master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Continuous Process Improvement Certification, and Project Management Professional Certification to enhance my technical and leadership capabilities. Beyond technical skills, I have also honed critical soft skills, including public speaking, strategic planning, and emotional intelligence. These skills have been instrumental in my ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and build meaningful professional relationships.
