Mohsen Tabasi

Mohsen Tabasi, PhD, M(ASCPi)CM, is a clinical microbiologist with a PhD in molecular microbiology. Dr. Tabasi currently serves as the Public Health Laboratory Section Supervisor at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health Laboratory in Philadelphia, where he oversees microbiology diagnostics, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and molecular surveillance for multidrug-resistant organisms. Dr. Tabasi’s specialty areas include clinical microbiology leadership, AST validation (including VITEK and E-test verification), and emerging technology implementation (e.g., MALDI-TOF, Illumina sequencing, Revogene, Alethia). He earned a doctorate in Medical Bacteriology from the Pasteur Institute of Iran in Tehran in 2020 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Temple University’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine in 2024. He also completed his MLS and molecular training through ASCP‑certified programs. 

Dr. Tabasi leads a team that supports public health initiatives across the state, providing rapid AMR detection, outbreak investigations, and laboratory support for state-wide surveillance efforts. His North Star is improving patient outcomes through data driven innovation and mentorship ensuring the next generation of laboratory professionals has strong technical, leadership, and ethical foundations.
