Vishnu Samara, PhD, MBA, DABCC, is an assistant professor of Pathology and an assistant director of Clinical Chemistry at The University of Chicago Medicine. Dr. Samara is a board-certified diplomate in clinical chemistry from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC). He completed his ComACC clinical chemistry fellowship from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) David Geffen School of Medicine and an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management. He received his PhD degree in Biological Sciences from Irell and Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences of City of Hope Medical Center.
Dr. Samara is actively involved with professional organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM). He is president-elect of ASCP's Wisconsin Chapter, Chair of Greater Chicagoland Section, and Treasurer of Cardiovascular Health Division of ADLM. Dr. Samara is highly passionate about training future leaders in pathology and laboratory medicine at all levels through hands-on mentorship and academic guidance. He has interests in validating and implementation of novel biomarkers for metabolic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular, liver, and kidney diseases, advancement of laboratory automation platforms, effective laboratory communication, and test utilization initiatives. Dr. Samara aims to enhance the visibility of the critical role pathologists and laboratory medicine professionals play in patient care.
