Halimat Olaniyan, MD, is a clinical-track pathology resident in her final year of residency at Indiana University, after which she will be completing her fellowship training in Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking at the University of Illinois Chicago. She received her bachelor's degree in public health sciences at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, as part of the inaugural undergraduate degree program at the School of Public Health, and her medical doctorate at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Dr. Olaniyan has turned the adversity she's faced as a patient living with sickle cell disease into the driving force of her career with a special focus on advocacy through sharing her own story. She currently is the associate chief resident of her program. She is also a philanthropist, self-published author, prolific speaker, and active researcher. She thoughtfully seeks out sustainable solutions to healthcare disparities by engaging patients in their own communities.
Dr. Olaniyan enjoys teaching and mentoring the next generation, serving and uplifting marginalized communities, and increasing the visibility of clinical pathologists as critical resources supporting medicine as a whole.
