Elizabeth Kertowidjojo

MD, PhD, MPH, FASCP

Elizabeth Kertowidjojo, MD, PhD, MPH, FASCP, is an assistant professor of Pathology at the University of Chicago where she also serves as the Program Director of the Pathology Residency program. Born and raised in Indonesia, Dr. Kertowidjojo emigrated to the United States during the 1998 Indonesian riots. She then went on to earn her doctor of medicine and doctorate New York Medical College, followed by residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Stony Brook Medicine, during which she also earned a master’s degree in public health. Dr. Kertowidjojo completed her fellowship training in Oncologic Surgical Pathology and Gynecologic Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and is currently practicing as a surgical pathologist, specializing in gynecologic pathology. 

Along with her clinical work, Dr. Kertowidjojo maintains active academic pursuits, particularly in the field of education. She enjoys teaching and mentoring trainees and was honored with the Wendy Recant, MD Faculty Award for Teaching as voted by the residents. Along with her role in the Pathology Residency program, she is a co-director of the first-year pathology course at University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Kertowidjojo also plays an active role in the effort to integrate pathology into the more clinically driven second-year curriculum. She hopes to expand experiential exposure to pathology in medical school, increasing awareness of pathology’s foundational role in healthcare.  

Outside of her work, Dr. Kertowidjojo enjoys spending time with her two daughters, going on traveling adventures, and learning the violin.
