Joshua Jefferson

Joshua Rashad Jefferson, EdD, HTL(ASCP)CM, is an assistant professor and education coordinator at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He is an ASCP-certified histotechnologist and a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the Histochemical Society, and the National Society for Histotechnology. 

Dr. Jefferson holds an associate's degree in applied science in Medical Laboratory Science, a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, a Master of Health Science, and a Doctorate in Education. His academic progression reflects a strong dedication to advancing laboratory science through teaching, research, and academic leadership. 

In his current role, he leads the education and training of future laboratory professionals in medical laboratory science and histology. His responsibilities include curriculum development, clinical rotation coordination, and hands-on instruction in advanced histological techniques, including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. 

Dr. Jefferson is deeply committed to inclusive, high-quality education that empowers students to become confident and competent laboratory scientists. His scholarly work includes the publication of his doctoral thesis and authorship of more than 11 peer-reviewed scientific papers, contributing significantly to the field of laboratory medicine and education. 

One of his most impactful accomplishments includes spearheading the creation of a new histology procurement laboratory to strengthen hands-on learning and research capabilities at his institution. 

Outside of academia, he advocates for student mentorship, supports science education in underserved communities, and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare.
