Lucas Hough

MHS, PA(ASCP)CM

Lucas Hough, MHS, PA(ASCP)CM , is a certified Pathologists’ Assistant and serves as the quality assurance supervisor for Surgical Pathology and Cytology at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center in NYC. He received dual bachelor's degrees in biology and forensic and investigative science prior to completing the Pathologists’ Assistant graduate program at West Virginia University. He spent the next decade working as a PA in prestigious high-volume, high-complexity labs, both private and academic.  

At MSK, he continued to hone his lab skills, later attaining a promotion to the QA and Operations lead PA position and eventually becoming the QA supervisor. Mr. Hough is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and one of the newest members of the ASCP Pathologists’ Assistants Examination Committee, working as part of the team responsible for creating, reviewing, and implementing questions for the ASCP PA certification exam. He is also a fellow of the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants (AAPA), where he has worked as a peer-reviewer of submitted journal articles and, over the past six years, a primary author on the 3rd and 4th editions of the AAPA Grossing Guidelines, developing updated grossing guidelines for the lung and thymus sections as a resource for anyone at the grossing bench.  

He is passionate about fostering education, guiding PA students and recent grads alike, as well as closely collaborating with pathologists and clinicians to efficiently provide high-quality patient care, all the while moving the needle on departmental and systemic improvements. He enjoys balancing work with hiking, skiing, kayaking, traveling, reading, and spending time with his two corgis.
