Daniel Dees, DCLS, CC(NRCC), MLS(ASCP)CM, is the medical director for Clinical Hematology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the medical director of the laboratory at Spaulding Hospital Cambridge. He also serves as an instructor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. Dr. Dees earned his doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of Texas Medical Branch and has served in both military and civilian laboratory settings across the United States.
Specializing in hematology, Dr. Dees is actively involved in diagnostic stewardship, test utilization, and the digital transformation of laboratory medicine. In his current role, he leads system-wide standardization efforts across the Mass General Brigham enterprise, with particular focus on general hematology, flow cytometry, hemoglobinopathy evaluation, and hemostasis testing.
He is passionate about advancing the profession through education, mentorship, and leadership. Dr. Dees supports the national development of DCLS practitioners and serves on committees shaping the future of laboratory science. He is committed to fostering inclusive excellence and driving innovation in clinical diagnostics.
Outside the lab, Dr. Dees enjoys video games, traveling, and spending time with his two dogs.
