June Chan, PhD, D(ABMM), M(ASCP)CM, is an assistant attending on the Clinical Microbiology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. She holds a New York State (NYS) Certificate of Qualification in microbiological diagnostic specialties. Dr. Chan is the director of the Microbiology Core (specimen processing, rapid molecular and send-out testing), Mycobacteriology, and Parasitology sections and an assistant director of the Clinical Laboratory at Koch Center. A diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology and ASCP-certified Technologist in Microbiology, she has almost two decades of experience in the microbiological sciences.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and received her doctorate in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. Dr. Chan pursued public health training as an APHL-CDC antimicrobial resistance fellow at the NYS Department of Health and completed specialized training in Medical and Public Health Laboratory Microbiology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
A firm believer that the clinical microbiology laboratory is essential to providing optimal patient care, Dr. Chan is dedicated to delivering high-quality diagnostics, fostering scientific education, and advancing scientific research. She is most proud of the professional opportunity to practice as a clinical microbiologist, her scientific educational outreach (5th Grade Career Day Series in Brooklyn, NY; NYCASM Education Committee involvement), and her newfound role as associate program director of the Clinical Microbiology Fellowship.
