Swikrity Baskota

MBBS, MD, FCAP, FASCP

Swikrity U. Baskota, MBBS, MD, FCAP, FASCP, is a cytopathologist and educator at the University of California Davis Medical Center, where she serves as fellowship director for Cytopathology and assistant professor of Cytopathology, Lung, and Breast Pathology. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), where she also serves as a mentor and delivers talks in various educational activities. 

Originally from Kathmandu, Nepal, Dr. Baskota completed her medical education at Kathmandu University and residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the National Academy of Medical Sciences. After serving as a clinical pathologist and laboratory director in Nepal, she completed an anatomic pathology residency and a cytopathology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2021. 

From 2021 to 2024, she was an assistant professor at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. A passionate mentor and innovator, Dr. Baskota is the founder of Match to Path, the first website dedicated to supporting pathology residency applicants through peer-reviewed resources, mentorship, and community-building for all diverse groups of residency applicants. 

She actively advances digital pathology through social media. Dr. Baskota founded the American Society of Cytopathology eJournal Twitter Chat, co-chairs the Diagnostic Cytopathology Journal’s Social Media Board, and serves on the Papanicolaou Society’s Social Media Committee. She is also on the Board of Directors for the CAP Foundation, contributing to its Development and Global Pathology Committees. 

Outside of work, Dr. Baskota enjoys swimming, hiking, and traveling.
